"What has God said?"
This is one of the most important questions we can ask ourselves.
If we believe that the Bible is the Word of God, the question "What has God said?" becomes the answer to all our other questions.
"Who is God? What is He like?"
"Who I am? What is my mission and purpose?"
"What is God's will for me in this situation?"
"How do I deal with issues like anxiety, fear, guilt, grief, and depression?"
"How do I handle difficult and painful relationships?"
"How do I handle disappointment, loss, and suffering?"
"How can I find peace and contentment?"
"How can I draw close to God? Can I have an intimate relationship with Him?"
In this class, we dive into the Word of God - the Bible - asking ourselves, "What has God said?" about a variety of issues.
Why am I teaching this course?
My name is Gary. I come from a childhood of heavy loss and sexual abuse. I grew up with very skewed ideas of who God was and what family, relationships, and life and were all about.
When I trusted Christ at age 11, things began to change. I began to heal. Over the next few years, my parents divorced, my dad died, and my mom attempted suicide. I thought my life was over.
A good friend's family asked me to come live with them. From the moment I walked into their home, the trajectory of my life began to change. Through them, I experienced the powerful, healing love of Christ is deeply personal ways.
The past four plus decades have been spent learning to walk with Christ and abide in Him. I have been honored to serve as a college minister, a church-planting missionary in Japan, a pastor of four churches, and a hospice chaplain / bereavement specialist. I now work as an author, speaker, Bible teacher, and grief specialist. I guess you could say that I am a Grief Pastor.
I taught The Bible and the Believer at church in the Spring of 2024. Response was so favorable that I decided to make it available online.
I love Jesus. I love His word, the Bible. I am eager to share what I have learned over the years from the scriptures, how to read them, what the main themes are, and how to live out God's word in our daily lives.
That's what this course is all about.
